Pita bread

Light and fluffy, this bread can be used as a side during meals to grab food, to soak up the sauce or to make a sandwich.

Ingredients for 4 breads

  • 130 g of flour + some to spread the bread
  • 1 teaspoon of baker’s dry yeast
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of powdered sugar
  • 80 ml of lukewarm water
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil

Directions

Preheat oven to 150°F / 50°C

Step 1:

In a glass, dilute the sugar in lukewarm water.

Add the yeast and mix quickly with a spoon. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let stand 10 min.

This step activates the yeast in order to reduce the emergence time of the dough. When the surface of the mixture starts to bubble, it means that your yeast is active and can be added to the other ingredients of the recipe.

Step 2:

In the bowl of the robot or in a salad bowl, mix the flour and the salt.

Take the water / yeast / sugar glass and stir until the yeast and sugar are completely diluted and mixed well with the water. Then pour this mixture into the flour.

Knead the dough until it becomes flexible and elastic. If necessary, add a little flour (if the dough is too wet) or a little lukewarm water (if the dough is too dry).

The kneading of the dough is finished: the dough forms a compact ball. The dough does not stick to the walls of the bowl or to the hands.

Step 3:

Put the oil on a deep plate and put the dough in it, smear it with oil.

Cover the plate with plastic film. Turn off the oven and put the dough in it. Let stand for 30 minutes.

Step 4:

After 30 minutes of warm rest, the dough will have doubled in volume.

Remove the plastic film and place a little flour on the dough. Form a compact ball with the dough, then divide into 4 equal pieces and form small balls.

Step 5:

Using a rolling pin, roll each ball into a circle of about 20 cm and return the dough regularly so that it does not stick on the worktop. Sprinkle the work plan with flour if necessary.

Step 6:

Heat a frying pan at maximum power. Place a pita bread on the pan. After 30 seconds, bubbles begin to form on the surface: slightly lower the firepower.

Cook for 1-2 minutes.

Step 7:

When the bread is completely inflated, turn it over and cook for 30 seconds the other side.

Step 8:

Place the pita bread on a plate covered with a cloth while baking the other loaves.

If you do not eat the breads immediately after cooking, place them in a plastic bag to keep them. Warm them up for a few seconds in the microwave before consuming.
