Chicken shawarma

It’s a kind of Lebanese-style chicken kebab … pita bread topped with spicy marinated chicken, mixed with raw vegetables, seasoned with garlic and yoghurt sauce.

Ingredients for 2 persons

For the chicken with spices

  • 200 g of chicken breast
  • 1 teaspoon of ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon of dried garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon of paprika
  • ½ teaspoon of chili powder
  • 2 pinches of salt
  • 2 pinches of black pepper  
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

For the sauce

  • 250 g of plain yoghurt
  • 3 teaspoons of dried garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  •  1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of black pepper

Directions

Step 1: sauce preparation  

Mix all ingredients in a bowl: yoghurt, garlic, cumin, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Reserve in the fridge until the service.

Step 2: vegetables preparation

Wash the tomatoes – Remove the hard parts on the top – Cut the tomatoes in half – Cut thin slices.

Cut the ends of the cucumber – Peel the cucumber – Rinse with water – Cut in half – (Remove the pips according to the variety of cucumber) – Cut thin sticks.

Arrange the vegetables on a serving dish. Reserve in the fridge until the service.

Step 3: chicken preparation

Cut the chicken breast into strips.

In a bowl, mix the chicken with coriander, garlic, paprika, pepper, salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon juice.

Heat an oil-free pan and grill the chicken pieces with spices.

Stir regularly. If the meat sticks in the pan, lower the cooking power and add a few drops of water in the pan. When all the chicken pieces are grilled, put them on a serving platter.

Keep warm until serving.

Step 4: It’s time to go eat !!!!

Place on the table: grilled chicken with spices, bowl of sauce, sliced ​​vegetables and pita bread. The guests serve themselves in the dishes of service, make and take their dish as they please … with the fork, with the fingers, in plate, in sandwich!
