Shepherd’s pie

A complete dish, tasty and very easy to make!

Ingredients for 4 persons

For the mashed potato:

  • 1kg of potatoes
  • 40 g of butter
  • Salt and pepper

For the beef and vegetables mixture:

  • 400 g of ground beef
  • 1 white or yellow onion
  • 2 fresh carrots
  • 200 g of canned green peas

To go faster, as an alternative to onions, carrots and peas, you can also use a ready-made vegetable mixture (400 g) available in the frozen food department at the supermarket.

  • 1 cube of beef stock diluted in 250 ml of water or 250 ml of beef broth (= 1 cup)
  • 4 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 20 g of grated parmesan

Directions

Step 1:

Make a mash with 1kg of potatoes. Click on this link to see the recipe step by step: mashed potato recipe.

Step 2:

Peel the onion, then chop or cut it into small pieces.

Peel and cut the carrots in dices.

Crush the cube of beef stock and melt it in 250 ml of boiling water. Set aside.

Step 3:

In a pan, heat the olive oil and fry the onion pieces until they are translucent.

Add the diced carrots and the ground beef. Mix.

Continue cooking, stirring regularly, until the beef is no longer pink and begins to grill.

Step 4:

Lower the power of fire (4/10).

Pour the beef broth into the pan.

Add the green peas and the tomato paste. Mix.

Put a lid on the pan and continue cooking for 10 minutes over medium heat (4/10).

At the end of cooking, salt and pepper to your liking.

—– Preheat the oven to 180 ° C / 350 ° F —-

Step 5:

Put the beef and vegetable mixture into the bottom of a gratin dish (capacity 3 liters).

Cover with the mashed potato made in step 1.

Sprinkle the cheese over the layer of mash.

Step 6:

Bake for 30 minutes at 180 ° C / 350 ° F.

Serve very hot.
